On 13 June, Dominika Grzesik (University of Wroclaw), laureate of the Géza Alföldy – Publication Grant 2021, gave a guest talk for EpIdentity project during the Warsaw Papyrology and Epigraphy seminar hosted by Tomasz Derda, Adam Łajtar, and Adam Łukaszewicz.

The talk was titled: „More differences or similarities? The honorific habit of Delos, Delphi, and Oropos [Więcej różnic, czy więcej podobieństw? Zwyczaj honoryfikacyjny Delos, Delf i Oropos].”

Abstract: The so-called ‘decree culture’, or the culture of writing down decrees in the form of stone inscriptions exposed to the public, is a very important part of the entire epigraphic habit of Greek cities. In Greek sanctuaries, however, this culture played an unprecedented role in shaping and arranging the available space. In my talk, I will try to look at the habit of writing public decrees in stone as an integral part of the preserved material culture, focusing on the chronology of the entire phenomenon, and on the preferred support. My starting point will be research on the decrees of Delphi, Delos and Oropos, which will be compared with documents from other sanctuaries in Central Greece, the Aegean Islands and Asia Minor.

Abstrakt: Tzw. ‘decree cultre’, czyli kultura zapisywania uchwał w formie kamiennych inskrypcji wystawionych na widok publiczny jest bardzo ważną częścią całego zwyczaju epigraficznego greckich miast. W greckich sanktuariach jednak kultura ta odegrała niespotykaną nigdzie indziej rolę w kształtowaniu i aranżacji dostępnej przestrzeni. W swoim wystąpieniu spróbuję przyjrzeć się zwyczajowi zapisywania publicznych uchwał w kamieniu jako integralnej części zachowanej kultury materialnej, skupiając się na chronologii całego zjawiska oraz na preferowanych nośnikach inskrypcji. Punktem wyjścia będą dla mnie badania nad uchwałami z Delf, Delos i Oropos, które zestawione zostaną z dokumentami z innych sanktuariów z Grecji Centralnej, wysp Morza Egejskiego oraz z Azji Mniejszej.
