On 30 March 2023 Piotr Jutkiewicz, gave a paper titled: “The Gospel of John in the Syriac Harklean Version. Challenges and Contributions of a Critical Edition”. It was a great opportunity to discuss the issue of the choice of language in biblical texts, and the meeting was followed by a good discussion.

Abstract: Although the Syriac Harklean version is both an essential witness to the transmission history of the New Testament text in the Syriac-speaking world and relevant to the broader field of New Testament textual criticism, scholars have long had to rely on editions that are not critical. The creation of a critical edition has been impeded by the complexity of the textual features of the Harklean version and the obscurity of its transmission history. My paper presents a critical edition of the Gospel of John in the Syriac Harklean version (my Ph.D. project submitted to the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome), focusing on its challenges and contributions.
